Exodus

The second part of the Exodus is the continuation of Moses and the now free people of Egypt.
This is the part of the story which is pretty straight forward. This is how Moses after leaving Egypt guided by God is now looking for the holy place which God himself chose for the people Egypt to live in. This like all the stories of the bible is extremely important because it deals with the caring that God the Almighty has over the human body and being. But then this seems to be a story that a never ends…is it? Some consider that the Bible is based on fictitious stories and that the only thing these “stories” are meant for is to learn something about them that will make us better persons. This is true but it is not a fictitious story I believe that these stories are real and that they are events that are to be remembered for some reason and not taken in vain. These stories reflect what humanity has gone threw and how God has guided humanity threw his process of history.

Exodus

The story of the Egyptian trade of power for life…. It is in this story that God changes the rules by which he chose for the human race to live. The story of Moses and the people of Egypt is one of the many stories of the bible, but we must ask ourselves is this story significant? All of the stories that are in the bible are significant, because each and every one of those stories has something to teach us or leave behind.

In this particular story the Lord God has been watching how the Egyptian workers were being treated and decides that this is too much for human kind to bare. This is a story that most people know, why? Why is this story so important? Why does every one know this story? God is a being that is always on top of the human race his “creation”. For example in the tower of Babel where humans wish to get to the heavens by building a tower and God changes all of the worker’s language leaving them no option but to drop the idea. It was God who in the Garden of Eden “punished” man by vanishing him from the Garden of Eden. This gives us only a taste of what human kind has gone through. This story is one of the most significant stories for me because it shows how God intervenes with what humans do… this explains all the other events throughout history. So God has some type of love or feeling towards us because he demonstrates it by being aware of what is of us humans. It is this story of Moses and the Egyptian people where God once again shows his feelings and thought towards us.

Genesis 11 - 28

In this third part of the bible there is more than one story. The first story relates to the Tower of Babel where the descendents of Noah and his family decide that they want to build a tower so high that it could reach the heavens. And God decides that this is not what humans are meant for doing, so God decide that all the people who are constructing this enormous building change their native language. This story is really straight forward and teaches us that there are better thing to do than to reach the heavens.

The other story that is presented in this third part of the bible is Abrahams story his sons and his life. Abraham is a descendent from Noah and is another of the chosen persons on earth by God to be their profit. In one of the stories of Abraham is the Story of Jacob the dreamer. Jacob was one of Abraham’s many sons and because of the greed of his brothers Jacob was sold into slavery by his brothers and taken to Egypt to work as a slave. So we can see that greediness is seen in all of humans even in those days and it seems as if it was something natural that makes us sinners. This passage shows us what some greediness can lead to. The question that is left behind is, we greedy, how do we manage it?

Franklin Delano Roosevelt

Mr. Vice President, Mr. Speaker, Members of the Senate, and of the House of Representatives:
Yesterday, December 7th, 1941 -- a date which will live in infamy -- the United States of America was suddenly and deliberately attacked by naval and air forces of the Empire of Japan.
The United States was at peace with that nation and, at the solicitation of Japan, was still in conversation with its government and its emperor looking toward the maintenance of peace in the Pacific.
Indeed, one hour after Japanese air squadrons had commenced bombing in the American island of Oahu, the Japanese ambassador to the United States and his colleague delivered to our Secretary of State a formal reply to a recent American message. And while this reply stated that it seemed useless to continue the existing diplomatic negotiations, it contained no threat or hint of war or of armed attack.
It will be recorded that the distance of Hawaii from Japan makes it obvious that the attack was deliberately planned many days or even weeks ago. During the intervening time, the Japanese government has deliberately sought to deceive the United States by false statements and expressions of hope for continued peace.
The attack yesterday on the Hawaiian islands has caused severe damage to American naval and military forces. I regret to tell you that very many American lives have been lost. In addition, American ships have been reported torpedoed on the high seas between San Francisco and Honolulu.
Yesterday, the Japanese government also launched an attack against Malaya.
Last night, Japanese forces attacked Hong Kong.
Last night, Japanese forces attacked Guam.
Last night, Japanese forces attacked the Philippine Islands.
Last night, the Japanese attacked Wake Island.
And this morning, the Japanese attacked Midway Island.
Japan has, therefore, undertaken a surprise offensive extending throughout the Pacific area. The facts of yesterday and today speak for themselves. The people of the United States have already formed their opinions and well understand the implications to the very life and safety of our nation.
As commander in chief of the Army and Navy, I have directed that all measures be taken for our defense. But always will our whole nation remember the character of the onslaught against us.
No matter how long it may take us to overcome this premeditated invasion, the American people in their righteous might will win through to absolute victory.
I believe that I interpret the will of the Congress and of the people when I assert that we will not only defend ourselves to the uttermost, but will make it very certain that this form of treachery shall never again endanger us.
Hostilities exist. There is no blinking at the fact that our people, our territory, and our interests are in grave danger.
With confidence in our armed forces, with the unbounding determination of our people, we will gain the inevitable triumph -- so help us God.
I ask that the Congress declare that since the unprovoked and dastardly attack by Japan on Sunday, December 7th, 1941, a state of war has existed between the United States and the Japanese empire.

Genesis 5 - 11

In these chapters the basic story is the one of Noah and his story about the flood… Most of us know that story but the question is, do we understand why this happened? Some people may think it was because man kind was corrupt and deceived God’s principals, but there is more. God is a figure that is always looking upon us (humans) and it is in this story or event that the KJV bible expresses that this does happen. How corrupt is human culture and why should it be destroyed. These are questions that are only answered in the bible. According to the KJV bible man’s corruptions comes from the greediness of Cain and from that moment on Man has always tried to be corrupt. God decides that the best solution for seeking an end to this corruption and deceiving of God’s principals, humankind should pay a price that is so high that meant death, the way of extermination and in this case the survival of the fittest in terms of religion, faith, and good values. So the question that is open- ended is, are we meeting God’s expectations, why does God have expectations? These are questions that can only be found in ones self.

Genesis 1 - 5

In the beginning of Genesis, the first book of the bible, God creates all living things and continuously works for six days and on the seventh day he rests. In those six days one of his creations is Man, this creations was meant to rule over all the already existing creatures of earth. God gives Man his blessings and is superior to any other creature. As time passes God finds loneliness by Man and decides to create a partner for him. This partner was to be Mans companion and couple. God decided that this new creature (mans companion) would have to be a direct creation from man, so God puts asleep Man and takes from him a rib that was then used to create the woman. Man then decided to name all living creature and he named himself Adam and his companion Eve. They were sent to a garden made by the almighty power of God called, Eden. It is then in the Garden of Eden that both Adam and Eve sin for the first time. This sin is recognized as the First sin of man kind and is the sin that all humans are born with according to Catholic Church teachings. It was this sin that changed all relation with God and his creation. Then the Genesis continues with Adam and Eve’s life story, their sons Cain and Abel, where Cain kills Abel because of greediness and then what happened to Cain and his descendents.
In this first part of the Bible Authorized by King James you can clearly see how it is similar to the Catholic version of the bible, so this version can be considered a descendent form the Catholic bible no only because it has the same information, but also because it has a similarity of teachings and basic knowledge that the person who wrote these passages wants the reader to understand.

Myths

Nisus and Scylia

Myths talk about events that are usually fictitious, that have a hero and tell a tale or a story…This myth is about how a war that was never to occur occurred because of the memory of ones father or superior being. It was because of this memory that the war kept on going and reached a high level of blood and violence… As the myth carries on, one of the characters has no problem of defeating and challenging this authority of the superior being that in this myth is the characters father. The result of this challenging is an end to the war and a victory for the character’s role and importance. In this myth there is a back round story which tells us that sometimes even though the superior being’s have more power, a stronger position towards something but, your own idea also counts and sometimes they also make mistakes that lead to a bad and despicable solutions. So what is left as a conclusion is no matter how crazy it might seem sometimes it might mean more than what you or others think.

Baucis and Philemon

Love another ancient Greek topic where love is in the air and all around it. In this myth love is the basic topic where all the characters actions and ideas are based on this single topic. What these characters do is pretty radical and I‘m not into the idea of burying the person I love, but any way this relates to what we’ve been working in class which is metaphors. The burying part I interpret it as a metaphorical way of Love where the characters love each other so much they are even opened to the idea of dyeing together and being together for eternity… this is a metaphor and is quite extreme.

The Sphinix

This myth talks about an opinion that was asked and the response towards it. In this myth the great ruler Thebes asked an oracle for his opinion about a problem that needed to be solved. The oracle did his job which was to give his opinion and his solution to the question he was being asked. But the big question that is being left open ended in this part of the myth is did Thebes do his part of the job just as he was told. The answer to that question is NO. And as a result to the problem it was left just as it was at the beginning, but at end this lack or responsibility led to a tragic ending that leaves us all a message to keep which is always to do your part of the work.
