Exodus

The second part of the Exodus is the continuation of Moses and the now free people of Egypt.
This is the part of the story which is pretty straight forward. This is how Moses after leaving Egypt guided by God is now looking for the holy place which God himself chose for the people Egypt to live in. This like all the stories of the bible is extremely important because it deals with the caring that God the Almighty has over the human body and being. But then this seems to be a story that a never ends…is it? Some consider that the Bible is based on fictitious stories and that the only thing these “stories” are meant for is to learn something about them that will make us better persons. This is true but it is not a fictitious story I believe that these stories are real and that they are events that are to be remembered for some reason and not taken in vain. These stories reflect what humanity has gone threw and how God has guided humanity threw his process of history.

Exodus

The story of the Egyptian trade of power for life…. It is in this story that God changes the rules by which he chose for the human race to live. The story of Moses and the people of Egypt is one of the many stories of the bible, but we must ask ourselves is this story significant? All of the stories that are in the bible are significant, because each and every one of those stories has something to teach us or leave behind.

In this particular story the Lord God has been watching how the Egyptian workers were being treated and decides that this is too much for human kind to bare. This is a story that most people know, why? Why is this story so important? Why does every one know this story? God is a being that is always on top of the human race his “creation”. For example in the tower of Babel where humans wish to get to the heavens by building a tower and God changes all of the worker’s language leaving them no option but to drop the idea. It was God who in the Garden of Eden “punished” man by vanishing him from the Garden of Eden. This gives us only a taste of what human kind has gone through. This story is one of the most significant stories for me because it shows how God intervenes with what humans do… this explains all the other events throughout history. So God has some type of love or feeling towards us because he demonstrates it by being aware of what is of us humans. It is this story of Moses and the Egyptian people where God once again shows his feelings and thought towards us.

Genesis 11 - 28

In this third part of the bible there is more than one story. The first story relates to the Tower of Babel where the descendents of Noah and his family decide that they want to build a tower so high that it could reach the heavens. And God decides that this is not what humans are meant for doing, so God decide that all the people who are constructing this enormous building change their native language. This story is really straight forward and teaches us that there are better thing to do than to reach the heavens.

The other story that is presented in this third part of the bible is Abrahams story his sons and his life. Abraham is a descendent from Noah and is another of the chosen persons on earth by God to be their profit. In one of the stories of Abraham is the Story of Jacob the dreamer. Jacob was one of Abraham’s many sons and because of the greed of his brothers Jacob was sold into slavery by his brothers and taken to Egypt to work as a slave. So we can see that greediness is seen in all of humans even in those days and it seems as if it was something natural that makes us sinners. This passage shows us what some greediness can lead to. The question that is left behind is, we greedy, how do we manage it?

Franklin Delano Roosevelt

Mr. Vice President, Mr. Speaker, Members of the Senate, and of the House of Representatives:
Yesterday, December 7th, 1941 -- a date which will live in infamy -- the United States of America was suddenly and deliberately attacked by naval and air forces of the Empire of Japan.
The United States was at peace with that nation and, at the solicitation of Japan, was still in conversation with its government and its emperor looking toward the maintenance of peace in the Pacific.
Indeed, one hour after Japanese air squadrons had commenced bombing in the American island of Oahu, the Japanese ambassador to the United States and his colleague delivered to our Secretary of State a formal reply to a recent American message. And while this reply stated that it seemed useless to continue the existing diplomatic negotiations, it contained no threat or hint of war or of armed attack.
It will be recorded that the distance of Hawaii from Japan makes it obvious that the attack was deliberately planned many days or even weeks ago. During the intervening time, the Japanese government has deliberately sought to deceive the United States by false statements and expressions of hope for continued peace.
The attack yesterday on the Hawaiian islands has caused severe damage to American naval and military forces. I regret to tell you that very many American lives have been lost. In addition, American ships have been reported torpedoed on the high seas between San Francisco and Honolulu.
Yesterday, the Japanese government also launched an attack against Malaya.
Last night, Japanese forces attacked Hong Kong.
Last night, Japanese forces attacked Guam.
Last night, Japanese forces attacked the Philippine Islands.
Last night, the Japanese attacked Wake Island.
And this morning, the Japanese attacked Midway Island.
Japan has, therefore, undertaken a surprise offensive extending throughout the Pacific area. The facts of yesterday and today speak for themselves. The people of the United States have already formed their opinions and well understand the implications to the very life and safety of our nation.
As commander in chief of the Army and Navy, I have directed that all measures be taken for our defense. But always will our whole nation remember the character of the onslaught against us.
No matter how long it may take us to overcome this premeditated invasion, the American people in their righteous might will win through to absolute victory.
I believe that I interpret the will of the Congress and of the people when I assert that we will not only defend ourselves to the uttermost, but will make it very certain that this form of treachery shall never again endanger us.
Hostilities exist. There is no blinking at the fact that our people, our territory, and our interests are in grave danger.
With confidence in our armed forces, with the unbounding determination of our people, we will gain the inevitable triumph -- so help us God.
I ask that the Congress declare that since the unprovoked and dastardly attack by Japan on Sunday, December 7th, 1941, a state of war has existed between the United States and the Japanese empire.

Genesis 5 - 11

In these chapters the basic story is the one of Noah and his story about the flood… Most of us know that story but the question is, do we understand why this happened? Some people may think it was because man kind was corrupt and deceived God’s principals, but there is more. God is a figure that is always looking upon us (humans) and it is in this story or event that the KJV bible expresses that this does happen. How corrupt is human culture and why should it be destroyed. These are questions that are only answered in the bible. According to the KJV bible man’s corruptions comes from the greediness of Cain and from that moment on Man has always tried to be corrupt. God decides that the best solution for seeking an end to this corruption and deceiving of God’s principals, humankind should pay a price that is so high that meant death, the way of extermination and in this case the survival of the fittest in terms of religion, faith, and good values. So the question that is open- ended is, are we meeting God’s expectations, why does God have expectations? These are questions that can only be found in ones self.

Genesis 1 - 5

In the beginning of Genesis, the first book of the bible, God creates all living things and continuously works for six days and on the seventh day he rests. In those six days one of his creations is Man, this creations was meant to rule over all the already existing creatures of earth. God gives Man his blessings and is superior to any other creature. As time passes God finds loneliness by Man and decides to create a partner for him. This partner was to be Mans companion and couple. God decided that this new creature (mans companion) would have to be a direct creation from man, so God puts asleep Man and takes from him a rib that was then used to create the woman. Man then decided to name all living creature and he named himself Adam and his companion Eve. They were sent to a garden made by the almighty power of God called, Eden. It is then in the Garden of Eden that both Adam and Eve sin for the first time. This sin is recognized as the First sin of man kind and is the sin that all humans are born with according to Catholic Church teachings. It was this sin that changed all relation with God and his creation. Then the Genesis continues with Adam and Eve’s life story, their sons Cain and Abel, where Cain kills Abel because of greediness and then what happened to Cain and his descendents.
In this first part of the Bible Authorized by King James you can clearly see how it is similar to the Catholic version of the bible, so this version can be considered a descendent form the Catholic bible no only because it has the same information, but also because it has a similarity of teachings and basic knowledge that the person who wrote these passages wants the reader to understand.

Myths

Nisus and Scylia

Myths talk about events that are usually fictitious, that have a hero and tell a tale or a story…This myth is about how a war that was never to occur occurred because of the memory of ones father or superior being. It was because of this memory that the war kept on going and reached a high level of blood and violence… As the myth carries on, one of the characters has no problem of defeating and challenging this authority of the superior being that in this myth is the characters father. The result of this challenging is an end to the war and a victory for the character’s role and importance. In this myth there is a back round story which tells us that sometimes even though the superior being’s have more power, a stronger position towards something but, your own idea also counts and sometimes they also make mistakes that lead to a bad and despicable solutions. So what is left as a conclusion is no matter how crazy it might seem sometimes it might mean more than what you or others think.

Baucis and Philemon

Love another ancient Greek topic where love is in the air and all around it. In this myth love is the basic topic where all the characters actions and ideas are based on this single topic. What these characters do is pretty radical and I‘m not into the idea of burying the person I love, but any way this relates to what we’ve been working in class which is metaphors. The burying part I interpret it as a metaphorical way of Love where the characters love each other so much they are even opened to the idea of dyeing together and being together for eternity… this is a metaphor and is quite extreme.

The Sphinix

This myth talks about an opinion that was asked and the response towards it. In this myth the great ruler Thebes asked an oracle for his opinion about a problem that needed to be solved. The oracle did his job which was to give his opinion and his solution to the question he was being asked. But the big question that is being left open ended in this part of the myth is did Thebes do his part of the job just as he was told. The answer to that question is NO. And as a result to the problem it was left just as it was at the beginning, but at end this lack or responsibility led to a tragic ending that leaves us all a message to keep which is always to do your part of the work.

REPUBLICAN presidential candidates can’t get elected without owning the tax issue. So far, the current crop is giving it away.
A huge reason for Ronald Reagan’s popularity was his cutting of all income-tax rates and ending of “bracket creep,” in which inflation pushed earners into higher tax groups. Congressional Republicans promised a tax credit for children while sweeping the 1994 elections. In 2000, George W. Bush promised to expand that tax credit and to reduce income taxes.
Yes, the top Republican contenders for 2008 are promising to keep all of Mr. Bush’s tax cuts. But the Democrats are not threatening the child tax credit or Mr. Bush’s reductions in the lower-level income-tax rates. Those issues are off the table.
What Mitt Romney and Rudy Giuliani — who have made the most detailed remarks on taxes of the top-tier candidates — are really saying is that they will make sure that taxes on capital gains, dividends, estates and high earners will stay low. Not many middle-class taxpayers will benefit directly from any of those policies.
Mr. Romney adds that he will try to cut the corporate tax rate, which his adviser Glenn Hubbard calls “a drain on competitiveness.” Many of our trading partners have cut their corporate taxes, and more and more conservatives want the United States to follow suit. Apparently they haven’t been listening to their own speeches on free trade. Companies compete. Countries, however, are not engaged in a zero-sum contest where one nation’s gain is another’s loss. Cutting corporate tax rates may or may not be a good idea, but we don’t need to make it a priority to preserve our competitiveness.
Both Mr. Romney and Mr. Giuliani speak vaguely about making sure the alternative minimum tax doesn’t affect any more middle-class families. That is a step in the right direction. But it isn’t a tax cut.
Mr. Romney has also proposed an initiative to make the return on middle-class savings tax-free. It may also be a step in the right direction, but it’s small change. The primary focus of the Romney and Giuliani tax plans remains high earners.
What would be a serious middle-class tax cut? One answer is to expand the tax credit for children. But none of the candidates is proposing to do so, or any other big tax relief for regular folks. You might think that Mr. Giuliani would want to do everything he can to appeal to social conservatives short of actually becoming one himself. But why should he offer a pro-family tax cut when even the hard-core social conservatives in the race aren’t interested? Mike Huckabee wants a national sales tax and Sam Brownback wants a flat tax. Either proposal would increase taxes on a lot of middle-class families.
The Republicans in Congress are no better. For much of the right, the great passion of the moment is to make sure that the carried interest at hedge funds is taxed at what look an awful lot like preferential rates. For years, liberals have said that Republicans talk about “family values” but won’t do anything to meet the economic needs of families. Right now, on taxes, that charge hits home.
Two ideological misconceptions underlie the party’s lack of imagination. First, Republicans worry that taking people off the income-tax rolls, as an expanded child credit would do, would make voters think big government is free and turn to the Democrats. But there’s no real evidence for this. Besides, parents are likely to be future-oriented voters, and they will realize that they will be paying higher taxes again once their children have grown up.
Second, Republicans believe, in general, that the tax code should generate its revenue in a way that does the least damage possible to the economy. So they seek tax reforms that cut taxes on investment returns and thereby increase economic growth. What they ignore is that we overtax investments in children, too. Parents make financial sacrifices to produce the next generation of taxpayers, who will pay for everyone’s retirements. Yet the tax code does too little to recognize parents’ investments.
True, an expanded tax credit for children wouldn’t increase economic growth. Growth is good, and more growth is better. But present tax rates are perfectly compatible with healthy long-term growth. There is no pressing need to bring them down to improve growth.
A few conservative strategists have designed tax reform plans that modestly cut corporate tax rates and simplify the tax code while also helping families. (One idea is to make up the lost revenue by bumping affluent childless people into higher tax brackets.) So far, the candidates have not been interested.
As the Republican Party has gotten more socially conservative, its voter base has become lower in income. Many of the working-class social conservatives on whom the party relies are parents trying to make ends meet, or young people who want to start families but have financial worries. They have no particular attachment, or hostility, to free-market principles. A Republican Party that found a conservative way to meet their economic needs would both hold and expand its base.

Myths

Roecus

This myth leads into Greek culture and their expectations. In this myth the Greeks write about how serving and loyalty were important. They give specific value to being loyal because, it’s part of Greek culture and believe that being loyal, creates character and strengthens their personality and helps to gain confidence with others. They (Greeks) write about how their gods receive these values in a good way and have it present in their mind when these values are accomplished. So this myth is actually a way of expressing what the “gods” expect and how the gods will react in return. So it is a way of building and strengthening values in Greek society.

The water Deities

The word deities means: A god or goddess, the essential nature or condition of being a god; divinity. According to: http://www.answers.com/topic/deity . This definition states that god is an essential nature, therefore the meaning of God is: A being conceived as the perfect, omnipotent, omniscient originator and ruler of the universe, the principal object of faith and worship in monotheistic religions. The force, effect, or a manifestation or aspect of this being, A being of supernatural powers or attributes, believed in and worshiped by a people, especially a male deity thought to control some part of nature or reality, An image of a supernatural being; an idol. One that is worshiped, idealized, or followed: Money was their go, a very handsome man, a powerful ruler or despot, according to: http://www.answers.com/god . If we read these definitions you can come to the conclusion that “God” is a being that has A LOT of power and that is the original founder of all universe and that humans are a result of his creation. In this myth the definition that fits best is the first one which states that God is a being that is perfect omnipotent … so in a simple conclusion to this myth, Greeks thought that this power that gods had was the effect of all natural causes and blamed the gods for a natural disaster because, they understood that these beings were able enough to do this and that no one else was. Their conclusion was that they were the ones responsible to all natural causes and were the ones to be blamed at. So what this myth means and what it wants is that humans understand that there is a God, and it is He who controls all their ways of life and as a result of these teaching people feel that they have the responsibility of pleasing the gods so no natural disaster occur. It is a way manipulating people’s actions, but not their thoughts.
The winds
Wind is and artificial movement of air. In those days Greeks recurred to gods for any explanation and in this case they did. In the modern world the wind is considered an artificial movement of air and in the old ancient Greek world it was considered gods. What this means is that Greeks had something that they could recur to if any event happened and could keep track of the winds, which would then mean that they even studied winds and knew which way they would go. By assigning gods to the winds, what they were doing was that they were encouraging people to memorize these winds by using gods’ names to create certain chain of knowledge by linking gods to nature. This helped the Greek society in a sense understand winds and even try to study them and helped society grow in a knowledgeable way.

How much shall we bet?

This article talks about the solar system, different ideals of how the solar system and the universe works. The article is a narrated article where two persons are having a discusion and that present diffrent opinions about the universe and it's componentes. Each of these two individuals present concrete ideas that have good evidence, but don't always agree on what one or the other says. Both of thses individals are extreemly sure of their answers and want to bet to see who is right and who is wrong. My opinion is that both are right, I am not a person that has a lot of knowledge of the universe, but what these two individuals present seem to be the truth, therefore I agree with both. I think this is a very interesting article with very interesting facts and ideas.

Gilgamesh 48 - 65

Death is part of the in mortal life, it is something that has to happens and that can't be avoided, it can be extended but not avoided, how ever in this part of the epic, Gilgamesh is trying to seek an answer that requires a long journey or darkness and sorrow. He seeks the answer of why he must die, and also seeks an answer to the death of his friend Enkidu which was Gilgamesh's companion in all of his journeys. This part of Gilgamesh continues with its usual style, the style of adventure to seek answer and result, it is in this part where Gilgamesh is looking for what he cannot find within himself.

Gilgamesh Part 3

In this part of this incredible part of and adventure of how power was gained and how this epic was one f its kind at its time t is incredible to see how it is well developed. In this part of Gilgamesh we can see how the wanting of power is endless not only in Gilgamesh, but every where else in the world.

Gilgamesh 21 - 36

In this part of the epic Gilgamesh, we can easily see how sometimes dreams are important because they might mean something, but we can also see that to wrestle a bull or to slay a demon takes a lot of work and the characters in this epic destroy these phenomenon’s by using team work as a solution. It is important to learn, but to also practice these values because it is the most successful way to accomplish such jobs or events.

Gilgamesh 1-20

Why does Gilgamesh have to do this errand? Does it have to with pride, or is it just another way to show what he is capable of doing...

Newspaper Dead End?

Local newspapers were the first type of communication around the world therefore it is very old and antique. It is a product that had of a lot of innovation at its time, but it seems as if technology is ahead of it now a days. Innovation is very important to survive for a long period of time , because there is no innovation, update or change in this product it would seem that is walking to a dead end and be the end of it and let another type of product take its place (technology).

Introduction

In this blog I will be evaluating and giving my opinion about Gilgamesh the poem as well as keepingn an update on the most intreging and most important events that occur in this story.
